Scottish and UK government ministers have held "very productive" talks over the transfer of welfare powers to Holyrood.

With responsibility over some benefits being devolved under the Scotland Act, members of the joint ministerial working group on welfare met in Glasgow.

Talks were chaired by Scottish Secretary David Mundell and Angela Constance, Holyrood Secretary for Communities, Social Security and Equalities.

Economy Secretary Keith Brown was also involved, with UK Work and Pensions Secretary Stephen Crabb taking part via videolink.

Afterwards, they said: "We had a very productive meeting which focused on the importance of working together to ensure the safe transfer of these important powers, with those who stand to benefit at the forefront of discussions.

"We are pleased to be able to agree that work can progress to quickly commence a number of powers in the Scotland Act and to continue discussing the commencement of the remaining welfare sections in the Act."

The group, which was set up to ensure a smooth transition of powers over welfare to the Scottish Parliament, first met in February 2015.
