SNP manifesto: key points.

* Economy

Increase spending by 0.5 per cent a year, delaying the date by which the books balance but providing an extra £140billion to support the economy and public services. The extra spending would provide £24billion for the NHS across the UK, including £2billion in Scotland by 2020/21.

* Tax

Backs the reintroduction of the 50p top rate of income tax. Also supports a tax on bankers' bonuses, a mansion tax, crackdown on tax avoidance, abolition of 'non dom' status, scrapping the married couple's tax allowance and a review of pension tax relief for the wealthiest. Labour's tax plans, in other words.

* Full fiscal autonomy

The Nationalists have also taken a step back with regard to their demand for all tax and spending to be devolved to Holyrood. The manifesto says they will push for Holyrood to "move to" full fiscal responsibility, calling for powers over employment policy (including the minimum wage), welfare, National Insurance and business taxes to be transferred first as part of a phased introduction.

* BBC

The SNP will press for control over broadcasting to be devolved to Holyrood.

The licence fee should be based on viewers' ability to pay. BBC Scotland should receive an extra £100million of the corporation's overall income. The Scottish Government should decide which sporting events are guaranteed to be free to view in Scotland.

* Defence

SNP will seek to block a new generation of nuclear weapons, saving up to £4billion per year from the mid-2020s. More conventional defence spending in Scotland, including a guarantee that the Navy's new frigates are built on the Clyde and carriers refitted at Rosyth. "No further erosion" of Scottish regiments.

* Europe

Will oppose in/out EU referendum, arguing 330,000 Scots jobs depend on membership of single market. If a referendum is held, will demand a veto so Britain could not leave EU unless all four UK nations vote for it.

* Benefits

Will press for the benefits system to be devolved to Holyrood.

Initially, will support moves to scrap bedroom tax and halt the roll-out of Universal Credit. Will also opposed planned £3billion cut to disability funding.

Child benefit and tax credits to rise in line with inflation.

Will seek to protect winter fuel allowance.

* Pensions

SNP will call for the state pension to rise by at least 2.5 per cent per year and will back a single tier pension rate of £160 per week.

Will also demand a review of planned increase in pension age from 66 to 67, arguing it is unfair because of Scots' lower life expectancy.

* Minimum wage

Increase minimum wage to £8.70 (70p higher than Labour) by 2020, raising earnings for 250,000 Scots. Rate for 16- to 18-year-olds should rise to £5.07 and 18- to 21-year-olds to £6.86.

* Immigration

Will support "sensible immigration policies that meet our economic needs". Will seek to re-introduce post-study work visas, allowing students educated in Scotland to work in the country for two years.

* Infrastructure

Will seek high speed rail link between Edinburgh, Glasgow and north of England, to be built at same time as HS2 from London to the Midlands.

* International

Wants "proper oversight and approval" for future UK military action, which must be in accordance with UN Charter.

Will call on next government to pursue two state solution for Israel and Palestine and support the formal recognition of a Palestinian state.

* Westminster reform

Will support replacement of first-past-the-post with the single transferable vote system of proportional representation for Westminster.

House of Lords should be scrapped and replaced with fully elected second chamber.

Press for system to remove disgraced MPs. Press for votes for 16- and 17-year-old in Westminster elections.

* Independence

The SNP's goal "is not what this election is about," says the manifesto.
