Danny Alexander has accused the Scottish Government of "fiddling the figures" when they unveiled their plans for the state pension following independence.

Last month the Scottish Government suggested Scots could start drawing their pension earlier if they voted Yes in next year's referendum. Leaving the UK would allow Holyrood to decide the state pension age, ministers said.

The Lib Dem Chief Secretary to the Treasury rejected that idea and warned such a move could cost the Scottish economy £1 billion and tens of thousands of jobs.

In a speech at the Scottish Productive Ageing summit, Mr Alexander said Holyrood's own research shows there could be a 50% increase in the number of Scots aged over 60 in the next 20 years.
