Ministers have been accused of "wild incompetence or deliberate deception" over the details of their independence policy on childcare.

Labour used a debate at Holyrood to attack the Scottish Government on its plans to vastly expand free childcare if there is a Yes vote in the referendum, stating the policy is "an absolute shambles".

Under the plans, children could receive 1,140 hours of childcare a year, with the SNP arguing this will allow many more parents to return to work.

Children's Minister Aileen Campbell said: "Our plans for childcare have been widely welcomed, with experts recognising the potential our proposals have for improving the lives of children and families right across Scotland."
