A SCOTS MP has criticised Nigel Farage over his call for Scottish politicians to abstain from voting in the Commons on certain issues - with immediate effect.

The Ukip leader wants all Scots MPs to create their own self-imposed ban on so-called "English-only" issues.

Mr Farage has now written to all 59 Scottish MPs, setting out his call, which also includes not taking part in debates.

Many Scottish MPs argue the idea would create "second-class MPs" within Westminster. They also say there are very few genuinely "English-only votes".

Those that are often still effect Scotland because the size of England mean the effects migrate across the border, they warn.

Brian Donohoe, Labour MP for Central Ayrshire, accused Mr Farage of a 'back of a fag packet' suggestion. He also claimed Mr Farage had singled out Scottish MPs. Mr Donohoe said: "I was surprised to receive such a letter before the details of the settlement for Scotland have been debated let alone implemented.

"I feel Mr Farage has been premature with his proposal."

He added: "To my mind, the whole question of devolution of power throughout the UK needs to be considered fully and a solution reached that we will all be able to live with.

"Solutions from the 'back of a fag packet' which address some issues but not others will simply not work."

He also criticised Mr Farage for targeting only Scottish MPs, without sending a similar letter to Welsh MPs asking them to refrain from voting on English health issues, among others.
