A former Ukip candidate and self-proclaimed "prophet" has urged Holyrood to consider using alternative "electromedical" devices to treat cancer.

Peter Patrick Glancy Campbell, who stood for Ukip in the 2011 Inverclyde by-election and claims to be a candidate for this year's general election, said he has demonstrated alternative therapy devices such as the "Bobbeck Brain Tuner" to former chief medical officer Sir Harry Burns and the "Photon Genie" to Alzheimer's patients.

Ukip Scottish chairman Arthur Misty Thackery said Mr Campbell has not been involved with Ukip since at least January 2014 and is not a candidate for this year's general election.

In a new petition to the Scottish Parliament, Mr Campbell said: "I witnessed a relative being what I can only describe as butchered by our NHS through her diagnosis of breast cancer so much so my book, Peter Campbell Reborn, shows the world my disgust and anger.

"She worked for eight years in a hospice and I still wonder today if this caused her to have contacted cancer.

"In 2006 she had a small lump, by 2010 she went through four years of suffering side effects of chemotherapy then finally dying in my arms in the very place she once worked.

"My friends and many on F/B are now getting much help of electromedicine machines, some use a magnetic pulsator for pain, also my other friend is now cancer-free.

"This is medical fact. I gave my local dementia ward a demo with some of my machines like my Photon Genie, everyone was very inspired on that day.

"Our NHS is lagging behind the world in this field of 21st-century medicine, especially as we all grow older and our Alzheimer's epidemic spreads worse."

The petition is signed: "Peter Campbell, Ukip health activist, Scottish candidate for 2015 general election. I am a prophet, even prophesised Scottish Referendum result."

Mr Thackery said: "Peter is a former member of Ukip and certainly a former candidate under the previous regime in Ukip.

"Peter is no longer a member and has not been for some time, and is most definitely not a Ukip PPC (prospective parliamentary candidate) or candidate at the general election 2015."

It later emerged that Mr Campbell recently rejoined Ukip but Mr Thackery confirmed that he holds no official position in the party and is not being considered for election.

He added: "Mr Campbell is an elderly gentleman deeply affected by the untimely death of his daughter from cancer and now apparently focused on exploring alternative remedies.

"He was moderately active some time ago before my time as chairman and on checking our records today I am told he has recently rejoined online as an ordinary member.

"I can, however, confirm Mr Campbell holds no official position in Ukip and is not a candidate for the 2015 general election."
