A HUMANIST group has used a slot at the Scottish Parliament to attack denominational education.

Gary McLelland, education policy officer at the Humanist Society Scotland, read a parable to MSPs which his group said reflected "the dangers of segregated schooling".

Citing Robert Burns' A Man's A Man For A' That, his speech told the story of a boy who leaves his clan and meets people from other backgrounds and concludes that they are all part of a "greater clan".

Mr McLelland is the fourth humanist to lead Time for Reflection at the Scottish Parliament, which usually begins business each week and often sees a faith representative address MSPs. School pupils and teachers have also led the segment.
