The Conservatives have received a backlash on social media after posting an election video about Alex Salmond online.

The video, which was posted by the Conservatives on YouTube, shows Salmond entering the House of Commons and playing a recorder while Ed Miliband dances to his tune.

Its YouTube description said: "A deal with the SNP now seems to be Ed Miliband's only route to power. That would mean Alex Salmond propping up the weak Labour leader, and - in Mr Salmond's own words - able to "call the tune".

"Share this film to let friends know that a Labour-SNP deal would mean chaos for Britain."

Twitter users have hit out at the video, claiming the Conservatives would be better setting out their policies than targeting Miliband and Salmond.

Comments on the video have been disabled.

Earlier this month the Conservatives released two new posters featuring an image of an agreement between Labour and the SNP and a picture of Miliband in Salmond's coat pocket.

In January the party released their first poster warning of what they call the "nightmare" of a Labour/nationalist coalition at Westminster after May's election.

The poster featured a picture of Ed Miliband with his arm around Alex Salmond outside 10 Downing Street and the slogan "Your worst nightmare... just got worse".
