David Hay, the man who led Livingston to CIS Insurance Cup glory four years ago, is poised to return to the club after Mark Proctor was sacked as manager yesterday, a day after an Italian consortium bought a majority stake.
The consortium - fronted by Rome lawyer Angelo Massone and including Glasgow-based agent Tommaso Angelini, who is understood to be Hay's son-in-law - released a statement confirming Proctor and his assistant, Curtis Fleming, had been "relieved of their duties".
The new owners will outline their plans for the club at a press conference tomorrow, but Hay, who has been out of football since being sacked by Dunfermline Athletic two years ago, is expected to be named consultant manager.
He said: "There are still a few things to be discussed, but I will be delighted to get back into the frame. We had some good times the last time and let's hope we can enjoy some more in the future."
Proctor, who is in talks over compensation for the year that remains on his contract, admitted he was not surprised at being forced out, but was still upset. He said: "It does not come as a shock, really. I understand the nature of the business I am in and I was in a precarious position.
"Don't get me wrong, I am bitterly disappointed, but once Pearse said he was leaving, my position was weakened. It's nothing personal, it was out of my hands. I've never been out of a job in my life, so I will just need to see what comes up."
