Glasgow
The country's earliest arrival is believed a baby girl born at the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital at 12.21am, weighing 5lb 8oz.
Parents Katherine and Alan Johnson, from Erskine, were surprised by her arrival more than a month early, and had yet to choose a name. Mrs Johnson said: "I'm still reeling from the shock of it all. I wasn't expecting her for another four and a half weeks - I hadn't even packed my bags.
"She's absolutely perfect, though, and I can't stop cuddling her."
At the same time on the same labour ward, Sephora and Graeme Livingstone, from Cambuslang, were also celebrating after their baby, Andrea, was born at 12.31am, weighing 8lbs.
Edinburgh
Malogorzata Wojcik, 30, went into labour just after the bells and delivered a baby girl less than two hours later.
Eliza Janet, who weighed 6lb 13oz, was born at 1.53am after a dash in a taxi across the city to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Her mother said she was overjoyed with the arrival of her first child. Mrs Wojcik, from Leith, said: "I am very, very proud about the delivery of Eliza." Mrs Wojcik and her husband Gregor, 26, chose to name her baby daughter after the hospital's midwife.
Aberdeen
Baby Iona Mercer made a safe arrival at the city's Maternity Hospital at 12.29am, weighing a healthy 8lb 13oz.
The newborn is the third child for Debbie and Ken Mercer, from Banchory, Aberdeenshire.
Dundee
The first baby born arrived at 2.30am - four days late. Baby boy Evan, weighing 7lb 15oz, came into the world just after the bells and parents Sandra Hebner, 35, and father Mark, 41, were delighted to see in the New Year with a new family member.
Livingston
The town's first was born at 2am at St John's Hospital, weighing 9lbs 8oz. Tracey Addison and Kevin Kerr, from Bathgate, West Lothian, have named their son Cameron.
Portree
Catherine Lawson, from Portree, Skye, was among the first to give birth in northern Scotland. Her son was born at 6.36am at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, weighing 7lb 15oz.
Borders
The first at Borders General Hospital, Melrose arrived 34 minutes after midnight. Joanna Mabon, 36, had a girl weighing eight pounds and four ounces.
