If you want to boost your retirement income it is a good idea to move to Glasgow.

Yesterday insurer Legal & General started using customer postcodes as an additional factor, alongside age and gender, when quoting annuity rates.

This could boost the income of Scottish retirees more than most. Life expectancy in Glasgow City is, at 69.9 years, the worst in the UK according to the Office for National Statistics, closely followed by West Dunbartonshire (71), Inverclyde (71.1) and Comhairle nan Eilean Siar (72.1). This compares to 82.2 in Kensington & Chelsea.

L&G reckons its computer system is so sophisticated that even next-door neighbours could find themselves being quoted different rates.
