A Minister has suggested moves to prevent further public discussion on how to deal with gay ministers.

After weeks of high-profile exchanges over the appointment of Rev Scott Rennie, Rev Dr John McPake gave notice of a call to halt members of the Church council, court and committees from speaking publicly about human sexuality.

Rev Dr John McPake, of East Kilbride, lodged notice that no matter what the outcome of Mr Rennie's case, he would ask that the Assembly stay quiet on the subject for more than a year.

It is thought such a moratorium could mean the issue of sexuality would not be concluded in its entirity during debate at this year's assembly.

The motion could still be heard ahead of tonight's hearing concerning Rev Rennie but could not affect it.

It is possible that if the motion is supported then a call for a debate on sexuality from the presbytery of Lochcarron and Skye could be silenced.
