Scrutiny under scrutiny

Since devolution, the bodies charged with overseeing public services in Scotland have grown like mushrooms and they now cost £59m annually. The organisations whose function is to scrutinise public services are now being pruned in line with longstanding promises across the political spectrum for a cull of quangos.
