Detectives are studying CCTV footage from a casino where a man was shot.

Tony De Marco, 62, sustained head injuries in the incident outside the Gala Maybury Casino in Edinburgh, but police have said they were not life-threatening.

Police said he was leaving the casino when he was approached by an armed man and shot. The culprit then ran off towards the junction at Turnhouse Road pursued by a number of witnesses, but was quickly lost from sight.

Lothian and Borders officers were called out following the shooting at about 11.50pm on Tuesday.

It is understood the victim is under police protection at Western General Hospital.

The suspect is described as white, thin, 23 to 25 years old, 5ft 8in to 5ft 11in tall.

Detective Inspector Robert Deas described the shooting as an "extremely serious incident" and appealed to the public for any information.

It is believed one line of inquiry is to investigate whether the incident was a gangland-related shooting.
