THERE should be nothing that disturbs Steven Davis after almost three years in Scottish football.

However, the Northern Irishman has admitted he would be “surprised” if the Old Firm won all of their remaining fixtures as the Clydesdale Bank Premier League races towards an intriguing conclusion.

“I genuinely think somebody will slip up either way between now and the end of the season,” he said yesterday. “Hopefully it’s Celtic –but that’s out of our hands.”

Davis, who will feature in a Rangers midfield against Motherwell today that will still be stripped of the injured pair of Lee McCulloch and Jamie Ness, said: “It’s advantage Celtic after the result last week.”

Following the 0-0 draw in the final Old Firm match of the season, Rangers are one point ahead in the championship but have played a game more and Davis would rate a title win as a “tremendous achievement”.

“Everything has been stacked against us in terms of playing staff and losing Kenny Miller halfway through the season,” he said.

He knows both Celtic and Rangers face testing matches this weekend. “Motherwell are on a good run of form; coming back from three goals down against Hearts last week will give them a big boost,” he said. “So they’ll be going into the game with a lot of confidence. They beat Celtic earlier on in the season and I’m sure they’ll be looking to put one over us too.”

Davis, who handed over a £25,000 cheque to The Prostate Cancer Charity Scotland on behalf of the Rangers Charity Foundation, pinpointed Steven Jennings, Keith Lasley and John Sutton as key performers for Stuart McCall’s side. However, he added: “Their main positive is their overall team play.”

The midfielder wants to put pressure on Celtic before their match against Dundee United at Parkhead tomorrow. “Dundee United have always given both ourselves and Celtic a good game,” he said.
