Scotland's Tartan Tour professionals made a rousing start to the PGA of Europe International Team Championship and were sharing the lead after the opening round at the Palmares resort in Portugal.
The trio of Gareth Wright, David Patrick and David Orr posted a seven-under-par tally of 137 to finish alongside England at the head of the standings.
The Scots, six-time winners of the title down the years but without a victory since 2006, were boosted by a late charge from Wright, the British Club Professionals' champion.
The Welshman, who opted to switch allegiance and represent the Scottish PGA, had been level-par through 12 holes but made an eagle on the 13th and birdies at the 15th and 17th in a four-under 68.
Patrick added a 69 to the card while Orr, the former Scottish PGA champion, had a non-counting score of 71.
England, led by Steve Parry's 67, finished alongside the Scots as the two Auld Enemies opened up a six-shot lead over third-placed Ireland. France, the defending champions, are eight strokes back on 145.
