Scotland turned in a remarkable clean sheet of 12 wins from 12 matches in the World Outdoor Bowls Championships in Adelaide yesterday, bringing their total to 16 from 20 played in both the men's and women's events.

After five rounds in the men's singles, Paul Foster sits in second place, two points behind the host nation's Leif Selby. The Scot beat opponents from England, Japan, USA and Spain, but lost 21-19 to Selby in his second-round match.

In the fours, David Peacock, Darren Burnett, Graeme Archer and Alex Marshall lost both of their opening two matches, against Canada and Australia, but stormed back into contention yesterday with wins over Japan and Philippines, followed by an event record 46-4 win over Brazil that leaves them in joint fourth position with Australia. They are four points behind unbeaten leaders USA and two adrift of Canada.

In the women's triples, Michelle Cooper, Caroline Brown and Lynn Stein are unbeaten in their five matches, recording wins over Jersey, South Africa, China, Fiji and Cyprus to remain two points ahead of South Africa and Wales.

In the pairs, Claire Johnston and Margaret Letham chalked up wins over Canada, Fiji, Thailand and Israel but lost 17-16 on the last end of their match with unbeaten leaders Australia and are in second spot behind their hosts.
