ALEX MORRISON has switched his latest promotion from the Kelvin Hall to Gorbals Leisure Centre after expressing concern that the bill might be jinxed.
The Glasgow promoter had been due to stage the show at the iconic boxing venue this weekend starring former world champion Scott Harrison in his third comeback bout against Greenock's John Simpson. But he has moved it back one week to December 8 after his plans began to unravel when he was forced to drop Harrison from the bill over concerns about the 35-year-old's readiness to fight in the wake of a Spanish court decision to sentence him to a four-year jail term for assault.
Morrison subsequently announced that he was proceeding with the Kelvin Hall show, with Simpson topping the bill along with Edinburgh middleweight Craig McEwan.
But when the pair pulled out and the Edinburgh cruiserweight Stephen Simmons ruptured a hamstring in training, Morrison had a change of heart. "I was beginning to think the show was jinxed, hence the switch to the Gorbals where we've staged two successful shows previously," he said yesterday.
"Local featherweight Jon Slowey will top the six-fight bill against the Spaniard Zebezui Garcia, who has a 10-2 record, for the vacant International Masters title.
"Slowey is undefeated in 11 contests, but this will be his toughest test against a tough opponent and we'll have a clearer idea of his long-term prospects after this fight."
Morrison, who is offering half-price admission for senior citizens who provide proof of age, will also feature several other bright prospects, Michael Roberts, Ryan Collins, David Brophy and Zander White.
He is also planning to give a debut to the Alloa middleweight Darren Reid, provided the youngster is given British Boxing Board of Control clearance to turn professional.
