Drew Miller, the former National Hockey League star, scored a hat trick last night as Clan gained swift revenge on struggling Stingrays for Sunday's 6-4 defeat on Humberside, writes Nigel Duncan. Supporting the efforts of the Detroit Red Wings forward were the captain Ash Goldie and Robert Farmer who scored two goals each. Jereme Tendler netted two goals for Hull as the Jondan Krestanovich's men ended a two-game losing run.
n Dundee CCS Stars will have their American defenceman Pat Bowen back for their home double-header against two of Britain's best clubs, Coventry Blaze and Nottingham Panthers, but Doug Krantz, a long- term injury victim, and player/coach Jeff Hutchins will be missing.

The Scottish contingent chalked up four wins, three draws and a defeat as the second phase of the world outdoor championships started in Adelaide, writes Anne Dunwoodie.
Margaret Letham's four led the way with two victories while Paul Foster and Alex Marshall, the world indoor champions, drew with Australia and beat South Africa in the men's pairs. Claire Johnston responded superbly to trailing Tracey Lee Botha, of South Africa, 13-10 after 12 ends by scoring on seven of the next eight ends and seeing out a 21-14 success on the 20th end, but she then lost to Natalie Melmore, England's Commonwealth champion. The triple of David Peacock, Darren Burnett and Graeme Archer scored a 5 and a double in the last two ends for an 18-12 win over Malaysia, then drew 14-14 with Ireland's Paul Daly, James Talbot and Neil Booth.

Kat Heathcote, a board member of Cricket Scotland, has made history by becoming the first female president of RH Corstorphine who play in Cricket Scotland League Eastern Conference First Division, writes William Dick. She said: "This is incredibly exciting and a great honour for me. The club is at a critical point in its existence and I am excited by the potential we have to become the best small cricket club in Scotland." She will be present at the famous Long Room at Lord's tonight as Cricket Scotland host a St Andrew's Day dinner. The event, supported by the Marylebone Cricket Club, is being staged to boost Scottish cricket's profile south of the border.

Glasgow City have been invited to compete in an international 'Meet the Champions' Indoor Tournament to mark the 40th anniversary of the German champions Turbine Potsdam in February, writes Kathy May. It is the first tournament of its kind to be staged by the German club and invitations went out to an impressive list of clubs featuring three winners of the UEFA Women's Champions League Winners, including the current holders Olympique Lyonnais of France. Also contesting the tournament are Arsenal, ROA Oslo, Brondby, Sparta Prague and SV Neulengbach, of Austria. It will be staged on the weekend of February 2/3 in the new indoor MBS-Arena Potsdam in front of a crowd of 2000.

Edinburgh University languished in the relegation zone of the women's top flight a couple of seasons ago but that predated the arrival as coach of the international striker Sam Judge and the students are now second in the Aberdeen Asset Management first division, writes Craig Madden.
Judge puts the turnaround in fortunes down to hard work, both in training and on match days, but also the signing of key players like Nikki Kidd, goalkeeper Nicki Cochrane and Louise Fleming. They are three points ahead of Milne Craig Clydesdale Western but five adrift of the leaders Grove Menzieshill who have yet to drop a point in this season's campaign.
The students have won their last four games convincingly against Grange (8-0), Giffnock (6-3), Inverleith (5-0) and Dundee Wanderers (3-0). Tomorrow, they face a derby against CALA who have also had a renaissance and are fourth, having beaten Western 2-1 two weeks ago before losing 2-1 to Giffnock last Saturday.
Change at the top is unlikely – Grove and Western are firm favourites to see off Wildcats and Grange respectively – but the battle to finish in the top five before the winter break involving Giffnock, Dundee Wanderers and Glynhill Kelburne, is closer to call. The Taysiders have games in hand and fixtures against Inverleith and Kelburne this weekend.
n Glynhill Kelburne, the Scottish men's champions, have an immensely tough draw in the last 16 of the EuroLeague, having been paired with Uhlenhorst Mulheim, the crack German side in a tie to be played at the end of March at a venue still to be decided. The crumb of comfort for Harry Coles, Kelburne's manager, is that Uhlenhorst were less than convincing in the group stages: they beat Dinamo Kazan of Russia 4-1 but lost 4-3 to Club de Campo de Madrid and only won the group on goal difference. The winners of the tie will play either Rot-Weiss Cologne from Germany or the Belgians Royal Leopold in the quarter finals.
