Stewart Anderson and Darren Burnett, the Scots who qualified for the pairs final on Monday, suffered contrasting fortunes in the singles at the FredOlsen Cruise Lines World Indoor Championships at Potters Leisure Resort, Hopton on Sea, Norfolk yesterday, writes Anne Dunwoodie.

Anderson, 27, was pushed hard by Mark Dawes, an English qualifier, before winning 8-8, 9-5. He trailed 8-4 in the first set with two ends remaining but secured a draw by scoring a single and a great treble on the last.

Burnett, his skip in the pairs, had "probably the worst game I have played on the portable rink" as he lost 12-5, 10-6 to Clifford Craig, a qualifier from Belfast. The 36-year-old Scot trailed 8-0 after three ends made no headway at any point.

Two Scottish qualifiers, Colin Walker and Steven Allan, take on the No.2 and No.8 seeds, Greg Harlow and Simon Skelton, respectively, in the first two matches today, while Alex Marshall, the five-time champion, and his pairs partner Paul Foster, a four-time winner, face qualifiers Scott Edwards from England and Welshman Stephen Harris.
