Here's how Neil Lennon's men rated:

Fraser Forster - The goalkeeper had probably his quietest Champions League night. His only job was to pick the ball from his net as he was left exposed by his defence. 6

Emilio Izaguirre - The full-back tried to get forward and link with Mulgrew but to no avail. Seemed to get no favours from the referee. 6

Mikael Lustig - Saw plenty of the ball as Celtic enjoyed good possession in the first half but he could not find anyone with his crosses. Replaced by Matthews. 6

Kelvin Wilson - Read Juventus' breaks well and tried to build a tempo from defence when in possession. 7

Efe Ambrose - The defender only arrived back in Glasgow hours before the match and seemed to be somewhere else during it. He was brushed off the ball too easily as Matri opened the scoring and caught in possession for the third. Missed a free header in the second half. 4

Scott Brown - Got under the skin of his opposing midfielders without the ball but could not influence the game with it. 6

Charlie Mulgrew - Deployed in midfield as he often has in European matches but he was unable to deliver any trademark crosses that have led to so many of his team's goals this season. 5

Victor Wanyama - The Kenyan midfielder started well but faded as the game wore on and was outnumbered by Pirlo, Marchisio and Vial. 6

James Forrest - The young winger was given a more central role in the absence of Giorgios Samaras but there was an aerial mismatch as Celtic's main tactic was to fire crosses into the box. 5

Kris Commons - Had the best chances for the home side in the first half and always looked to get a shot away. Unlucky with an overhead kick. 7

Gary Hooper - The striker was the subject of some old-school Italian defending. Starved of service as Celtic continually looked to cross into the box. 6

Substitutes:

Adam Matthews - Came on for Lustig but could not solidify the defence or add much in attack. 5

Tony Watt - Replaced Commons as Celtic looked for a goal to give them hope for the second leg. 4

Beram Kayal - Came on for Brown but had no time to make an impact. 4
