Neil Lennon, the Celtic manager, yesterday approached John Fleming, the Scottish Football Association's head of referee development, to seek support for the club's inquiry to UEFA about decisions made during the defeat to Juventus in the Champions League last week.
The club is seeking clarification about the grappling and man-handling inside the penalty area that was permitted among the Italian side's players by the Spanish referee, Alberto Mallenco.
Celtic are preparing to send a dossier, containing DVD footage and photographs, to UEFA, and Lennon wants to know what is permissible when players are marking at set-pieces since such physicality is illegal under the rules.
The Celtic manager was planning to speak to Fleming about the penalty Bobby Madden awarded to Dundee United on Saturday, despite TV footage showing Adam Matthews did not commit a foul on Johnny Russell, but he also intended to raise the issue of the Juventus game.
