Laura Bartlett, a two-time Olympian, yesterday became the second Scotland and Great Britain player to announce her retirement from the international scene in as many days.

At the comparatively tender age of 24, the former Milne Craig Western midfielder, originally from Airdrie, has decided to concentrate on a new job and does not believe she can maintain an international hockey career.

She helped Great Britain to win bronze at the London Olympics, and retires having earned a total of 107 caps, 57 for Scotland and 50 for Great Britain.

Abi Walker, the Scotland and GB goalkeeper, quit international hockey on Monday and Bartlett's impending retirement had been rumoured since the Games, especially as she did not make herself available for Scotland at the World League second round in Brazil next week.
