Glasgow Hawks and Gala played out a cracker at Old Anniesland yesterday, the teams drawing 38-38.
Rugby fans who have not been along to a club match this season should do soon: the entertainment is top quality. That was certainly the case in Glasgow yesterday, 10 tries being scored as Hawks and Gala could not be separated.
Gala were leading 38-31 with three minutes to play but Hawks' scrum-half Haddon McPherson scored a try and stand-off Scott Wight converted.
Earlier, Hawks scored tries through full-back James Gormley, centre Ally Maclay, hooker Finlay Gillies, captain Ross Miller and prop John Lohoar, with Wight adding three other conversions.
Gala's tries came from prop Ewan McQuillin, stand-off Dave O'Hagen, second-row Opeta Palepoi and No 8 Tom Weir, with centre Ewan Scott kicking 18 points.
Melrose stayed top after they defeated old rivals Hawick at Mansfield Park 53-24. It was an amazing second-half comeback from 'Rose, going from 24-19 down to victory.
Melrose scored five tries, winger Allan Dodds leading the way with two. Other tries came from stand-off Andrew Skeen and centre Mark Robertson and they got a penalty try. Centre Joe Helps was in top form, kicking 28 points.
Two Hawick tries came from centre James Johnstone, with winger Scott McLeod getting another and full-back Neil Renwick kicking nine points.
Heriot's defeated Ayr 20-19 at Goldenacre. Centre Cameron Ferguson and winger James Fleming scored tries for the home side who also had 10 points from the boot of scrum-half Graham Wilson.
For the visitors, tries came from hooker Fergus Scott, winger Kerr Gossman and a late effort from centre Robbie Ferguson, with replacement Finn Russell slotting two conversions, but it was not enough for them.
Despite a number of injury problems, Aberdeen Grammar battled hard to see off Stirling County 18-11 at Rubislaw. It was their second win of the season and winger Calum Gordon and second-row Ed Nimmons were the men to grab tries for the hosts.
Mark Ryan, the stand-off, also kicked eight points including a drop goal while County's points came through a try by second-row Craig Deacons, a penalty by centre Brian Archibald and a drop goal by stand-off Stuart Edwards.
Edinburgh Accies are third after they defeated Currie 22-20 in the first Edinburgh derby of the season at Malleny Park. Hooker Michael Liness, stand-off Alex Blair and No 8 Neil Aitken scored the tries for the visitors with scrum-half Ruairidh Bonner kicking seven points.
Prop John Cox and young full-back Ruairidh Smith scored Currie's tries with stand-off George Horne kicking 10 points, but the loss leaves them bottom as the only team yet to register a win.
In the RBS National League, leaders Watsonians battled back from 19-6 down at Hillhead Jordanhill to win 27-26.
Boroughmuir are equal on points with 'Sonians and are the only other unbeaten side after an impressive 39-21 win at Peebles, while Dundee HSFP defeated Kelso 21-12 at Mayfield.
