MIXED MARTIAL ARTS: Scottish MMA star Joanne Calderwood has the bookies running scared.

William Hill had been offering odds of 100/1 for any Scottish fighter to win a UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) world title in 2014, but were forced into a re-think after Calderwood's call-up to the world's premier MMA promotion was announced in December.

As reported in Herald Sport, the 27-year-old from Kilmarnock will compete in the UFC's 115lb strawweight female division this year in a tournament taking the format of the UFC's reality TV show, The Ultimate Fighter.

The two finalists will fight for the newly created women's strawweight title in the summer, with Calderwood thought to be in with a strong chance.

William Hill's bet has been updated to specify the 100/1 odds apply specifically to the winner of a "men's UFC title".
