Stephen Hughes last night acknowledged that the opportunity to be reunited with John Brown convinced the midfielder to sign for Dundee until the end of the season.

The former Scotland internationalist agreed a short-term contract following a spell in SPFL League 1 with East Fife.

Hughes has a pedigree after previous spells at Rangers, Leicester City, Aberdeen and Motherwell but was known to Brown already, The Dundee manager had worked as a youth coach as Hughes broke through at Ibrox.

"I worked with the manager for many years in my youth team days at Rangers," said Hughes. "He was a big factor in me coming here."
