Gordon Reid enjoyed the perfect start to his Australian Open preparations by becoming the first British player to win a men's singles Super Series title at the Apia Sydney International Open.

Reid, the world No.4, beat Japan's world No.10 Takuya Miki 7-5, 6-3 in the final, having saved set points in the opener.

Watched by Paralympics GB medallists David Weir and Shelley Woods, the British wheelchair No.1 from Helensburgh also won the men's doubles partnering the Dutchman, Maikel Scheffers.

"I'm delighted to start 2014 in such a positive way by winning my first Super Series singles title. "It's great preparation for my first Australian Open and I can't wait to get out on court in Melbourne," said Reid.
