CELTIC are working to bring in two more signings in the remaining 15 days of the January transfer window.

Manager Neil Lennon wants to add another striker and an attacking midfielder to the Parkhead squad for the second half of the season.

Lennon was named SPFL Premiership manager of the month for December yesterday - the award is based on league form and Celtic won all five games without conceding a goal - and then revealed efforts were ongoing to add to recent additions Holmbert Fridjonsson and Stefan Johansen, bought for £100,000 and £1.7m respectively.

"We're looking to bring another couple in if we can," he said. "Where are we with that? Nowhere right now. But we'll try and bring in a striker and another forward, an attacking midfielder type."

He was at the Fulham-Norwich FA Cup tie on Tuesday evening. "What I'm looking for is to bring players in who'll make us better and take us on for the second half of the season and for next season's [European] qualifiers. Simply giving the fans new faces doesn't really come into my thinking when I'm looking to bring players in.

"The fans get a kick out of seeing new players coming in anyway. But I think the squad needs freshening up. The players have been consistent for us in the last four or five years, and Joe [Ledley] and Sami [Georgios Samaras] come into that bracket."

There was still no clarity over those two. Lennon is confident that Ledley will sign the new contract which has been offered to him but suspects that Samaras may leave, although he has yet to give up hope. Both are out of contract in June and currently free to discuss terms with other clubs.

"All the signs from Joe are positive. I haven't spoken to his representative for a week or two, but that could get done. Sami is different, there's still a bit of a way to go in negotiations with him. The longer it goes on the more speculation about them there is, so we'd like to get both of them done as quickly as possible, but it's not as easy. We'll speak to Sami again early next week. There is interest in him but there has been no direct contact with any of the clubs." Samaras is wanted by Atletico Madrid.

Despite speculation of inevitable January interest in Fraser Forster, only five months before he hopes to be at the World Cup finals with England, Lennon was pleased to report there had been no approaches for his goalkeeper. Forster is under contract until 2016. "I'm pretty confident he'll be here after the end of January. That's brilliant for us.

"I don't think we'll be able to keep him for the long term. I'm sure there will be interest in him. But for now there's been no interest shown whatsoever which is great because we want to keep the continuity. I've no reason to think that, even if an offer did come in, he'd want to go just yet."

Tom Rogic is close to finalising a loan move to Melbourne Victory or Sydney FC in Australia while Paul George has been loaned to Hamilton.

Ahead of tomorrow's home game against Motherwell - Celtic's return to SPFL Premiership action after playing in the Antalya Cup in Turkey - Lennon spoke at length for the first time about new Norwegian signing Johansen. The 23-year-old should not be seen as a replacement for Ledley, he said, although both play in the centre or the left of midfield.

"He is an all-round midfielder, there are goals in him, he has a good range of passing and he's a very good athlete who covers the ground very well. He's got a lovely left foot on him, he has a very good temperament and has had a helluva good season in Norway. The Scandinavians have a very good mentality and he comes into that bracket.

"If you look at what Mikael Lustig has done since he came in, if he makes the same impact as Mikael we'll be very happy. We have done pretty well with the Scandinavians over the years. They are very similar to the British mentality, the majority have a strong mentality and I hope Stef fits that bill because you need a certain mentality to play here as well.

"He has a confidence about him, although not over-confidence. There's an intelligence about him as well which, again, differs from the British players!"

Celtic are unbeaten in the Premiership and 10 points clear at the top with two games in hand, yet the December award was Lennon's first managerial prize of the season.

He said he thought the expectation that Celtic will routinely win sometimes counted against him. "But it's not a major issue for me and it's nice to get the recognition," he continued. "What pleased me most was they showed a lot of character after the Barcelona defeat, which was in December as well. You felt there might be a big European hangover, or heads could have gone down."
