Jim Jefferies has moved early to secure the 'nucleus' of his Dunfermline Athletic team for next season.

Jefferies has offered deals to eight players after talks this week, with more experienced figures such as Josh Falkingham, Callum Morris and Andy Geggan understood to be among those the manager wants to keep.

The Fife club lie second in League 1, with promotion via the play-offs this term's ultimate goal. Jefferies is therefore eager to lay plans for beyond the summer.

He said: "We made offers to five players earlier in the week and another three since then. You get the nucleus of the side sorted out. It's not to say the other boys will not be offered a contract; they will be, in time."
