Carnoustie is set to stage the Senior Open Championship for a second time after the formidable Angus links was named as host venue for the over-50s showpiece in 2016.

Bernhard Langer, who claimed a 19th senior victory in Hawaii at the weekend, edged out Corey Pavin to the crown the last time the Senior Open was played at Carnoustie in 2010 and the popular German will, hopefully, form part of a glittering cast of golden oldies for its return.

This season's Senior Open takes place at Royal Porthcawl in Wales while Sunningdale's Old Course was yesterday unveiled as the 2015 venue. Carnoustie will be staging the championship's 30th anniversary.

Following this year's Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, Scotland, in 2015, will host the Open at St Andrews and the Women's British Open at Turnberry with the Open returning to Royal Troon in 2016.
