Jordan Rhodes, the Scotland striker, is determined to prove that he is able play a significant role in the qualifying campaign for the European Championships.

The Blackburn Rovers player earned his last cap as a subsitute in a defeat by Belgium in September.

Injuries have cost the 23-year-old a place in squads since then, but his international prospects had seemed diminished already since Gordon Strachan has questioned whether Rhodes would be able to fit into his preferred system. It is a query which the striker would be only to willing to answer.

"I have been playing that lone striker role for 18 months at Blackburn Rovers," said Rhodes, who has scored three goals for Scotland. "I've had plenty of knock-backs in my career and criticism. It's about how you respond."
