Alex Neil, the Hamilton Academical player-manager, was yesterday revelling in the signing of Jason Scotland, who has agreed a move to New Douglas Park until the end of the season.

The former Dundee United, Swansea City and Wigan Athletic striker was signed after his release from Barnsley.

Now 34, Scotland arrives with an impressive cv, having played in England's Premier League for Wigan. It is that reputation which excites Neil most.

"This is a guy who has moved for over £2m in transfer fees," said Neil, who revealed that title rivals Dundee were also keen on Scotland. "I don't think Hamilton have ever signed a player who has moved for that amount of money."
