JIM JEFFERIES, the Dunfermline manager, was last night in the process of completing a deal to sign former Motherwell defender Jonathan Page.

The 23-year-old left Morton by mutual consent yesterday, freeing him to make the move to Fife.

Page has verbally agreed to switch to East End Park and it is believed that it is just the length of his deal which is to be formally sorted out.

Jefferies was reluctant to confirm the identity of his new recruit, but it is understood Page will be unveiled as a Dunfermline player today.

"He is an experienced player, certainly in terms of playing in the Premier League and making a lot of appearances in the second tier," Jefferies coyly said of the not-so-mystery man. "Both parties have agreed that he will cover us at least until the end of the season, but he might be here longer."
