Rowan Vine has been a Morton player for less than a week and already he is in need of a lift.

That has little to do with being struck by the sudden realisation that a career path which once wound from Portsmouth to Queens Park Rangers has since veered to the bottom of the SPFL Championship, but rather the shuddering effects of putting the wrong sort of fuel in his car.

The 31-year-old - who has signed at Cappielow until the end of the season - was due to be presented to the media earlier this week, only to become stranded somewhere on the M8. It left manager Kenny Shiels to motor on and deliver an ad hoc appraisal of his newest signing.

"He will bring a little bit more variety to how we attack," said Shiels. "People think you need a goalscorer but that's not necessarily what's missing all the time, [Vine] might spark us into more creativity."
