Give him half a chance and Lewis Stevenson will sing the praises of Raith Rovers gladly.

Put him on the spot and he might even manage a few club songs too.

Now a 26-year-old defender for Hibernian, Stevenson had started out as a young lad from Kirkcaldy. Raith would make the biggest impression on him - a club which was a stone's throw from his house and even closer to his school. It has not strayed too far from his heart either, even if he will spend this afternoon doing his utmost to force the Fife club aside in the fifth round of the William Hill Scottish Cup.

It is a task that Stevenson will go about with quiet authority, but there may come time to pause and reflect on a time when he was a noisy wean among the Raith support. He was perhaps at his most boisterous when watching the Kirkcaldy side win in the 1994 Coca-Cola Cup against Celtic.

"I used to know all the words to Geordie Munro [the song sung by Raith supporters], although I don't know if I could belt it out now," said the Hibs defender. "I have done it before though. It was actually during pre-season in Spain last summer. We all had to sing a song in front of everyone else and that was my one.

"I think I only managed the first verse. But it wasn't the worst, there were a few worse than me. It was the only song I could think of at the time. A few of the boys before me had got up and sung football songs, and that was the only one I roughly knew the words to.

"I used to go to a few of the Raith games, my school was just at the back of the stadium. We used to get tickets through that. I was at the final when they beat Celtic in 1994. I remember it all, vaguely. I was six at the time."

Greig Spence was just in his teens when he won consecutive Youth Cups as part of Celtic's prodigious youth team. Both were held at Hampden and came against Rangers. It is an experience which the Raith striker hopes to add to today when his side arrive at Easter Road on Scottish Cup duty.

"I've never really been far in the Scottish Cup, although I've won the Youth Cup a couple of times with Celtic," said the 21-year-old of winning the competition in 2010 and 2011. "I managed to do that with them two years in a row when I was in the under-19 side, that was three years ago now. The finals were both against Rangers at Hampden so they were really good crowds and that has probably been the biggest cup experience I have had.

"My best cup run in senior football has actually been this season - to the Ramsdens Cup final. Being underdogs [against Hibs today] will definitely help. It is up to Hibs to go out and win the game, it is a shock if we beat them and believe I have goals to offer the team. Hopefully if I get the nod then I will take my chance."
