Terry Butcher has informed his Hibernian players that a top-six finish in the SPFL Premiership this season is the only way to rescue their campaign following their exit in the William Hill Scottish Cup.

The Edinburgh side succumbed at home to Championship team Raith Rovers on Saturday, having already slipped four points behind sixth-place St Johnstone in the league table. Butcher expects his side to respond decisively.

"We had a good chat and the players were very honest," he said. "It was a look at our season and we can still salvage something: a place in the top six. I don't want our season to fade away."
