ALAN ARCHIBALD, the Partick Thistle manager, is pursuing further signings as he tries to rescue his club's faltering season.

He yesterday admitted defeat in his attempts to sign former Hearts midfielder Ruben Palazuelos, though, with the Spaniard expected to sign for Sky Bet League Championship side Yeovil Town.

He spent four years at Tynecastle and offered the sense of experience which Archibald has been eager to add to his squad. The Partick Thistle manager will continue to seek out free agents, but has conceded that it would be far easier to make signings were his team free from the prospect of relegation.

"It definitely makes it easier to get those guys we want to bring in if we get ourselves safe," he said. "All of the sides who are safe can start shopping now."
