Here's how the Chelsea players performed:
Petr Cech: Lucky to see Selcuk Inan hit the post from barely a yard in the 62nd minute, then at fault for Galatasaray's goal when Aurelien Chedjou beat him and John Terry to the crucial touch six yards out following a corner. 6.
Branislav Ivanovic: The right-back with an eye for goal produced an industrious defensive performance and did not get forward as much as Azpilicueta. 7.
Gary Cahill: An imposing presence at the heart of the Blues' defence, with a couple of key interceptions. 7.
John Terry: At the centre of things when the home side had a goal cancelled out in the first half because two balls were on the pitch - an incident which saw him booked - then allowed Chedjou too much space for Galatasaray's equaliser. 6.
Cesar Azpilicueta: Left-back set up the opening goal for Torres with a strong run and several more purposeful breaks down the left followed - although his influence dwindled after the break. 6.
Frank Lampard: No shortage of energy but not much creativity from the veteran midfielder. 6.
Ramires: Sidefooted a testing chance over midway through the first half, before being booked for a foul on Melo. 6.
Willian: Put an early chance wide, then brought a low save out of Fernando Muslera in the home goal - but needed Cech to rescue him after he lost possession to Alex Telles with 16 minutes remaining. 6.
Eden Hazard: Neat and tidy as ever but not his usual influential self. 6.
Andre Schurrle: Tested the home side down the right on several occasions in the first half. Booked in the second for fouling Melo before being substituted. 6.
Fernando Torres: Tapped in the opening goal from seven yards and was the focal point of the Blues' attack, although was not able to convert any of three more difficult chances. 7.
SUBS
John Obi Mikel (for Schurrle, 67): Joined the rearguard action in the closing stages as Chelsea sought to preserve their draw, with one wayward long-range shot his only offering further up the field. 6.
Samuel Eto'o (for Torres, 68): His fresh legs proved a useful outlet as the clock ran down, although was unable to offer a goal threat. 6.
Oscar (for Hazard, 90): Not enough time to make an impact. 6.
Why are you making commenting on The Herald only available to subscribers?
It should have been a safe space for informed debate, somewhere for readers to discuss issues around the biggest stories of the day, but all too often the below the line comments on most websites have become bogged down by off-topic discussions and abuse.
heraldscotland.com is tackling this problem by allowing only subscribers to comment.
We are doing this to improve the experience for our loyal readers and we believe it will reduce the ability of trolls and troublemakers, who occasionally find their way onto our site, to abuse our journalists and readers. We also hope it will help the comments section fulfil its promise as a part of Scotland's conversation with itself.
We are lucky at The Herald. We are read by an informed, educated readership who can add their knowledge and insights to our stories.
That is invaluable.
We are making the subscriber-only change to support our valued readers, who tell us they don't want the site cluttered up with irrelevant comments, untruths and abuse.
In the past, the journalist’s job was to collect and distribute information to the audience. Technology means that readers can shape a discussion. We look forward to hearing from you on heraldscotland.com
