DARREN FLETCHER'S belated return to the Scotland set-up proved to be a landmark occasion, as the Manchester United midfielder secured a place among the nation's top-10 most capped players.
The 30-year-old came on against Poland on Wednesday evening as a half-time substitute, replacing James Morrison in the 1-0 win in Warsaw. It was Fletcher's first appearance for the national side since captaining Scotland against Luxembourg in November 2012 and earned him his 62nd cap.
That puts Fletcher, who has battled back from a chronic bowel illness, level with Celtic great Danny McGrain in the list of all-time outings for Scotland.
If he remains fit, Fletcher could surpass the likes of Willie Miller (65), Christian Dailly (67), David Weir and Kenny Miller (both 69) during the next qualification campaign.
