France's forward power carried them to an emphatic victory at Old Anniesland last night against a Scotland side that had also been beaten in Ireland last month.

The Scots competed well in the first half but were punished for their errors and trailed 16-0 at the interval.

France got off to a cracking start, a good chip and gather by the full-back Remi Lamarque setting them up for a promising attack in the first minute. They took the lead two minutes later with a penalty from the stand-off Julien Lavie.

Scotland got themselves into the match with a couple of good attacks of their own to warm the crowd up. Gary Graham and Richard Mill were brought into the fray as early replacements due to short-term injuries.

As the match was approaching the half-hour mark Scotland were still mixing it with the visitors but were not making great inroads, and the French pulled away in the run-up to the break.

Firstly a break by Pierre Lafitte created the space for Lavie who floated a crossfield kick which Lamarque collected well to dot down under the posts. Lavie then added two more penalties to give the visitors a considerable cushion at half-time.

Scotland got off to a good start after the break and in the 48th minute opened their account when Jack Steele kicked a penalty.

However, France added another try on the hour when the second-row Anthony Potente went over for a converted score.

Late on, the replacement props Struan Cessford and Renaud Palomera were both sin-binned and then the French scored a third try through replacement Fabien Dupuy.

In the dying seconds the Scotland centre Chris Auld and France replacement Kevin Kahn were red-carded after a brawl broke out.
