Scotland Women performed better in the second half, but some soft scores for France in the first half sent them on their way to a comfortable 69-0 win at Hawthornden yesterday.

The result leaves Scotland Women without a win in this year's event ahead of a trip to Wales this weekend.

For the hosts, Heather Lockhart, the experienced Hillhead/Jordanhill prop, was named player of the match while second-row Deborah McCormack and No.8 Jade Konkel also performed pretty well.

France were given a chance to open the scoring within 60 seconds of the first whistle, but stand-off Sandrine Agricole missed the penalty. Two minutes later they were ahead, though, when centre Shannon Izar set up winger Marion Lievre for an unconverted try.

In the sixth minute they looked dangerous again, but Scotland full-back Steph Johnston got back well to cover a grubber kick and snuff out the danger. The visitors did add their second try in the 13th minute when their No.8 Safi N'Diaye went over for the converted effort. Ten minutes later the same player went over again and they ran in three more tries before half-time, captain Gaelle Mignot, second-row Assa Koite and winger Camille Grassineau all scoring.

Scotland came out after the break and did compete much better at the breakdown and they rattled the French slightly. It took the visitors 17 minutes to get their next try, with Lise Arricastre going over. Four more tries came from full-back Christelle Leduff, Izar, back-row Koumiba Djossouvi and replacement Jessy Tremouliere the scorers.
