If Richie Ramsay can carry on in Morocco this week where he left off in Turkey back in November, the Scot will be a happy man.
The 30-year-old's last competitive round was a sparkling 64 during the closing day of the Turkish Airlines Open and, since then, the two-time European Tour winner has been nursing a niggling and dispiriting ankle injury.
Ramsay returns in the Trophee Hassan II, which starts today at Golf Palais du Royal in Agadir, as the long round back to full fitness continues. "I rolled my ankle, tearing ligaments, in December and was in a protective boot going between Edinburgh and Atlanta for five weeks," said Ramsay, who has bases in both Scotland and the United States. "I started hitting balls again on February 20 and had my first full round actually walking the course 10 days after that.
"It's been difficult to deal with but I just have to focus on getting better. I don't have any great expectations and I'm just looking to play, stay patient and just pick off my shots. I'm not sure of my schedule but I'm likely to play in Spain after this to get rounds under my belt. I will see where my fitness is after that."
The Aberdonian is one of a host of Scots competing in north Africa, among them fellow European Tour winners, Marc Warren and Alastair Forsyth, as well as Stirling's Craig Lee, who shared ninth in the event last season.
