So when Carlin Isles was challenged to a race by burly Jon Welsh, the burly 19-stone prop known more for his weightlifting exploits than his pace, there could be only one winner - right?

Wrong. It was a close thing, but Welsh won. "It was really funny, but yes, Welshy beat him," said Peter Murchie, the full back and one of those who witnessed the shock result.

Confession time: over 40 metres, Welsh had a 20-metre head start. "Welshy did well but I've never seen anyone as quick as Carlin in a rugby situation," Murchie revealed.
