SEVEN teams have applied to play in the Scottish Lowland League next season.

Currently in its first season, the league comprises 12 teams, including three from Dumfries and Galloway - Gretna 2008, Dalbeattie Star and Threave Rovers - eight from the East of Scotland, plus East Kilbride, who are in their first year in senior football. No details of the prospective clubs have been released.

The plan is to bring the Lowland League up to 16 teams for next season, when the Pyramid System is expected to be brought in, with relegation and promotion from the SPFL and the East and South of Scotland Leagues.
