A young Hearts fan who was looking forward to being a baton bearer during the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games has died.

Kyle Wood, from East Lothian, passed away on Monday after suffering a suspected seizure in his sleep.

His heartbroken dad, Scott Wood, paid tribute to his son on Twiiter, changing his profile to: "RIP son, love you always".

He also tweeted: "Just like to say thanks to everyone who has sent me their condolences on what has been the worst day of my life #sleeptightson."

Kyle found out earlier this month that he had been chosen to carry the Glasgow 2014 baton in the run-up to the Games.

His dad tweeted: "Thanks @Glasgow2014 for picking my son as a baton bearer, he is so excited to have been chosen, well done Kyle!

"So proud of my wee man getting chosen to carry the Commonwealth Games baton!"

The tweet was accompanied by a picture of Kyle carrying a Save our Hearts flag.
