Assem Allam, the owner of Hull City, is considering whether to renew his bid to change his club's name to Hull Tigers, despite an initial application being denied by the Football Association.

Their decision has been welcomed by Supporters Direct, which has also claimed a change in legislation is required to prevent the idea being revisited.

There are, at least, no grounds to appeal the FA's decision, although it is understood another application could be made by Allam in 12 months time. The owner's determination to alter the club's name has been resisted by fans - whose side contest a FA Cup sem-final against Sheffield United on Sunday - with supporters' group City Til We Die now keen to draw a line under the issue.

"What happens now is up to the owner. As supporters this is the end of the line for us," said Ian Waterson, a spokesperson for the group.
