ALLY McCOIST last night dedicated Rangers' SPFL League One triumph to the memory of Sandy Jardine.
Thoughts of the club legend, who lost his 18-month battle with liver cancer on Thursday evening, dominated proceedings during the club's 3-0 victory over Stranraer yesterday and it was an emotional Rangers manager who paid tribute to his friend and colleague, who back in August was at Ibrox unfurling the old third division championship flag.
"Today is a strange day, because you all deserve to celebrate, players and fans alike, but there is no doubt it is one of the saddest days in our club's 140-year history," McCoist told fans.
"We have lost an unbelievable Ranger, but we have also lost an unbelieveable human being. A finer man I don't think I've ever met. With your blessing, the players and staff would like to dedicate this year's title to the one and only Sandy Jardine."
Lee McCulloch, who accepted the League One title from former Rangers Bobby Brown and Jonny Hubbard, alongside SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster, also paid tribute to the former Rangers, Hearts and Scotland full-back, who served latterly as a club official.
"Getting the win and dedicating it to Sandy was brilliant and the dressing room is happy about that," said McCulloch.
"It's been a sad occasion, but the players had words in the dressing room before the game and we spoke about going out and getting a win as that's what he would have wanted us to do."
