Stevie May, the St Johnstone striker, insists he will not be adversely affected by his failure to win the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award.

May has been the standout performer for the Perth side this season, scoring 27 goals in 45 outings, including the semi-final double against Aberdeen which took his club to within 90 minutes of a first major cup trophy in their 130-year history.

However, the 19-year-old was overlooked by his fellow professionals for the award, with Dundee United's Andrew Robertson taking the gong for best young player in the country.

And while May admits he would have liked to win the award, he is adamant he will not be knocked off his stride by losing out to one of his cup final opponents, Robertson. "It's not something that is going to affect me," May said. "It would have been nice to win that accolade, but I won't let that worry me. We have a lot of important games left and that is what I am looking forward to now."

May acknowledges that St Johnstone are cup final underdogs, but is holding on to "a feeling" the club have had all season that this could be their year.

"There is always a good vibe, but especially now with the cup final coming up," May said. "Hopefully, on the day we get a bit of luck. We have said from the start that we have a wee feeling it could be our year, but you can't take anything for granted."
