Jim Jefferies, the Dunfermline Athletic manager, has urged his players to prove their ambition by leading the club to the SPFL Championship through the play-offs.

The Fife side play the first leg against Stranraer tomorrow, with a possible derby against Cowdenbeath awaiting should they progress.

Dunfermline were relegated in the play-offs last season, the effects of administration leaving them shorn of seven first-team players by the time they faced Alloa Athletic. Jefferies has urged his team to prove all that is behind them by securing promotion this month.

"Everybody has said they want to play at a higher level," he said. "So, here's their chance. The players want to play in the Championship, we want to play there, the fans want us to play there, the board want us there. It's about the players now."
