Barry Ferguson is to leave Blackpool this summer following a spell as interim player-manager at the Sky Bet Championship club.

The former Scotland captain had suggested earlier this month that he would end a three-year stay at Bloomfield Road were he not to be offered the job full-time.

Blackpool requested permission to speak to Dundee United manager Jackie McNamara this week and that appears to have led Ferguson to move on. The midfielder - who had also suggested that Blackpool would struggle again next season without substantial investment - is now expected to seek a playing contract at another club, while he is also due to have surgery on an ankle problem.
